The emerging trend of mega gifts shifting towards health care, medical research and designated cancer treatments is likely to gain momentum over the next decade as the baby boomer generation decides what to do with their wealth.

Numerous reports talk about the transfer of wealth from the baby boomer generation to the next. The table above shows how that transition process is already underway. Canadians do not typically seek out the limelight as is the common practice with our neighbors in the USA. Nor do Canadian non-profit organizations try to leverage on the publicity to build brand name awareness as well as American non-profit groups.

At a time when we are inundated with new marketing messages for the latest and the greatest consumer products it is somewhat refreshing to know that there is some consistency in brand name at charitable organizations. If only the charities would figure out to incorporate that message of legacy gifts from wealthy individuals they may better position themselves for future gifts from other generous donors.

This report was compiled from the online database of naming opportunities and named gifts received put together by Dig In Research, http://diginresearch.biz For more information please contact Terry Burton by phone at 604-801-5107 or by email at terryburton808@yahoo.ca
